Q: What are the different names and part numbers used for this larger Sanden compressor?

A: We refer to this heavy-duty unit as the Sanden HD compressor, but it is also widely recognized in the industry as the Sanden 709 or by its official manufacturer model designation, the SD7H15.

Q: Is this an authentic Sanden component or an aftermarket replica?

A: We only supply genuine Sanden compressors. We do not sell cheap look-alikes or low-quality knock-offs, ensuring you receive the exact durability, performance, and sealing quality that Sanden is known for.

Q: Do I need to buy a bolt-on manifold to connect my A/C lines to the Sanden HD?

A: No. Unlike our Sanden Mini (SD7B10) compressor which requires a separate manifold, the Sanden HD features #10 male suction and #8 male pressure threaded fittings built directly into the compressor head housing. This allows you to thread your A/C hose fittings directly onto the unit for a quick and simple installation.

Q: What is the maximum RPM limit for the Sanden HD compressor?

A: The maximum sustained operating speed for the Sanden HD (SD7H15) is 6,000 RPM. If your build features an engine that frequently spins to higher RPMs, we recommend looking at our Sanden Mini compressor, which features a higher maximum limit of 9,000 RPM.

Q: Is the Sanden 709 large enough to cool full-sized vehicles or dual A/C configurations?

A: Yes. The Sanden HD has a large internal displacement and massive pumping capacity. We highly recommend this compressor for large vehicles, Suburbans, full-size station wagons, and dual air conditioning systems where maximum cabin-cooling performance is mandatory.

Q: Where does this compressor normally sit in the engine bay, and will it clear my hood?

A: Because of its larger physical footprint, our standard bracket kits typically position the Sanden HD out to the passenger side of the valve cover. However, if you are working with an ultra-tight engine bay, we offer our specialized Street Rod brackets. These unique brackets pull the large compressor into a very high and narrow position, allowing it to easily clear tight side panels and fit seamlessly inside constrained spaces like a '32 Ford hood line.

Q: Which engine platforms can I mount the Sanden HD compressor to using your brackets?

A: We have engineered high-quality accessory drive brackets to adapt this heavy-duty compressor to a wide variety of popular engine families, including:

• Big Block Chevy (BBC)

Q: What is the difference between this compressor and the so-called “508”?

A: Externally there is no difference between the “508” and the “709”. The first digit of the model number indicates the number of cylinders. The current model numbers are “SD5H14” and “SD7H15” which also indicates the number of cylinders and a clue to the capacity.  The “14” represents approximately 140 cc of displacement and of course, “15” means approximately 150 cc.

 In addition to more capacity we’ve also found that the seven cylinder version runs smoother where the five cylinder version has been known to have a harmonic vibration at certain RPM ranges, especially when used on Chevy LS engines.
