Description

Power steering pump bracket for Chevy LT (2020+) L82, L84, L87, and L8T engines with centered water pump

Here’s how to add a Saginaw style P-series power steering pump to your Gen 5  2020+ LT truck engine.

These engines in 1500 series trucks come without a power steering pump.  Engines in 2500 and heavier trucks usually have a Type 2 pump with a tall, attached reservoir.  Either way, you may want to use the commonly available P-series pump.  Here’s why:

  1. The vehicle you’re swapping the engine into may already have a P-series pump.  For example, all 1988-98 trucks (OBS) came with a P-series pump.  Many C10 trucks after 1980 used a P-series pump with a press-on pulley.  V-belt pulleys can be swapped for 6-groove serpentine style pulleys.
  2. The tall reservoir that came on 2500 and heavier trucks may cause hood clearance issues.
  3. If your vehicle has a hydro-boost brake system, there is a P-series pump available with a second return port.

We offer two all-new Edelmann P-series pumps: 6023R (single return) and 6091R (hydroboost dual return)

Note:

The water pump housing must have a machined surface on the passenger’s side of the casting to accept an L8T belt tensioner. The following casting numbers can be found on the face of the water pump housing: 12383468, 12687631, 12707680, 12708893.

Some 1500 pickups with 5.3L and 6.2L engines (L82 L84 and L87) have the centered water pump but did not use a spring-loaded tensioner and therefore the casting was not machined. For example, some, but not all of casting number 12383468 are machined.

All 6.6L (L8T) engines use a spring-loaded tensioner and will have the correct water pump, casting number 12707680.

FAQs

Q: What is the specific engine application for the K10755 bracket system?

A: This bracket is engineered exclusively for the 2020 and newer Gen V LT truck engines, specifically the L84 (5.3L), L87 (6.2L), and L8T (6.6L) with a centered water pump. (Some 2019 engines may also have this later centered water pump vs. the earlier offset water pump).

Q: Can this bracket be used on earlier 2014–2018 LT truck engines (L83/L86)?

A: No. The 2014–2018 engines utilize an offset water pump. For those earlier Gen V truck applications, you can use Kwik Performance part number K10702.

Q: Which power steering pump is compatible with the K10755?

A: This system is designed for the classic Saginaw P-series pump (often referred to as the "canned ham" style). The pump must have a press-on pulley shaft.  If your swap project is a 1975 and later C10 or a 1988-98+ OBS truck, you may be able to use the pump that came with your truck. We offer a new and improved Edelmann P-series pump in either standard or hydroboost.

Q: Does this kit require a new alternator, or can I reuse the factory unit?

A: The K10755 is designed to utilize the original equipment (OE) alternator that came with your L84, L87 or L8T truck engine. The alternator will remain in the stock location.

Q: Is a serpentine belt included with the bracket?

A: No, the belt is not included. However, the installation instructions provide a suggested length and a Gates 6-rib belt part number based on standard configurations.

Q: Will this bracket work with Corvette, CTS-V, or Camaro LT1/LT4 engine offsets?

A: No. This bracket is spaced specifically for the LT Truck/SUV offset. It will not align properly with passenger car belt paths.

Q: Does this kit interfere with the factory mechanical vacuum pump?

A: No. This bracket system sits well above the OEM vacuum pump.

Q: Does this bracket require any drilling or tapping of the engine block?

A: No. The K10755 utilizes existing threaded mounting holes on the Gen V LT engine block and water pump, making it a true bolt-on installation.
