BBC Early Serpentine Conversion Kit - K10014

What’s included:

Adapter plates made of 6061-T6
aircraft grade aluminum (brushed satin finish)

Zinc coated fasteners

Bolts for adapter plates AND to attach
GM brackets included

Both 3/8 and 7/16 bolts are included
for the passenger side head, since the holes vary for different years

What else is required to complete the
installation:

GM BBC engine (1966-1993) -or-
(1994-2000)

366, 396, 402, 427, 454, 502, 572

AC and Alt/PS aluminum drive brackets
off of a GM Truck engine listed above.

The brackets should include the idler
and tensioner.

Air conditioner compressor (from donor
vehicle)

Note: A good reason to use a 1994 and
up compressor is that the compressor will use R134a refrigerant.

Alternator (from donor vehicle)

Power Steering Pump(from donor
vehicle)

A smooth water pump pulley is required
(GM part number 10085760 or 19418445)

Donor engines should have the correct
pulley. (The pulley with flanges does not work)

A reverse rotation water pump off of a
1988-1999 454 engine.

This is considered a "long"
pump and is 7 5/16" from block to fan mounting surface.

Consider our Gates replacement Water Pump: (Kwik Performance
PN 44030).

A big-block crankshaft pulley, GM part
number 10085753 (usually retails for $150+)

Solution: We have developed an adapter
to let you bolt on the SBC crank pulley from the donor engine.

Consider the Crank Pulley Adapter for BBC engines (1966-93):
(Kwik Performance PN K10259).

Consider the Crank Pulley Adapter for BBC engines (1994-2000):
(Kwik Performance PN K10540).

Six-rib belt, See our included
installation instructions for suggested lengths and Gates part numbers.

Alternator rating and PS pulley
diameters can change suggested lengths.

Always check tensioner marks for
correct fitment.

A tall deck engine will require a belt
that is about 1" longer.

A new thermostat housing may be needed
to allow the upper radiator hose to clear the alternator.

Upper radiator hose will probably need to change, but
your vehicle's stock big-block lower hose, should work.

Q: What’s the primary purpose of the K10014conversion kit?

A: This kit consists of a set of adapter plates that allow you to bolt on a factory Small Block Chevy serpentine system to a Big Block Chevy engine. Using these widely available OEM brackets allows for a reliable serpentine setup without the high cost of aftermarket billet systems. This kit assumes you already have a BBC serpentine crank pulley. If not, we offer crank pulley adapter kits that will let you re-use your SBC crank pulley.  See K10259 for Mark IV balancers (1966-93) or K10540 for Gen 5 and Gen 6 balancers (1994-2000).

Q: Which engines does this kit fit?

A: It is designed for Big Block Chevy (BBC) engines manufactured between 1966 and 2000. It works for both standard and tall deck engines.

Q: What donor vehicle parts do I need?

A: You will need the AC and Alternator/Power Steering brackets from a 1988-1995 Full Size Truck (5.7L, 5.0L, or 4.3L V6) or a 1987-1995 S10/Blazer (4.3L) V6.

Q: Can I use this kit if I want to delete my AC?

A: Yes, you can use an AC Delete pulley (Part number 34152) if you do not wish to run an air conditioner compressor.

Q: What type of water pump is required?

A: You must use a reverse rotation water pump from a 1988-2000 454 engine. A standard rotation pump will not work.

Q: Do I need specific pulleys?

A: Yes. You need a smooth water pump pulley (GM Part number 10085760 or 19418445) and from the donor vehicles mentioned above. You will also need a serpentine style crank pulley either from your BBC or you can use a SBC pulley and the adapter mentioned above.

Q: Are the bolts included?

A: Yes, the kit includes zinc-coated fasteners for the adapter plates and for attaching the OEM brackets. It even includes both 3/8" and 7/16" bolts for the passenger side head to account for year-to-year variations.

Q: What belt should I use?

A: The kit uses a standard six-rib belt. Our included installation instructions will have a suggested length and a Gates part number. Our website also has a Gates Belt Chart with other part numbers and lengths in case your final configuration is different.

Q: Can I use a newer AC compressor?

A: Yes, using a 1994 -95 compressor is recommended as they are designed for R134a refrigerant. 

Q: Can I use a compressor other than the GM R4.

A: Yes, we offer a conversion kit that lets the Sanden Mini compressor (SD7B10) bolt in place of the R4.  See part number K10606.
