Description

AC/Alternator/Power Steering Bracket System for Chevy LT Gen 5 Truck Engines (L83, L86, 2014-19)

Here’s how to add a power steering pump and Sanden HD AC compressor to your 2014-2019 LT truck engine.

Here’s the problem this bracket kit solves:  The L83 and L86 engine donor trucks used electric power steering assist and also used a variable displacement AC compressor.  Your project vehicle probably has hydraulic power steering and maybe an aftermarket AC system.  This bracket kit gives you a Type 2 power steering pump and a place to add a Sanden AC compressor

What you might find unusual is mounting the power steering pump on the passenger’s side of the engine. We do that because these engines have an offset water pump taking up space on the driver’s side. There is a potential location low on the driver’s side where GM put a vacuum pump. We know hotrodders may remove that pump but we figured GM put there for a reason and we didn’t want to force builders to remove it.

The solution to a power steering pump on the passenger’s side is simply longer PS hoses and we offer a custom kit that will work great with C10 and C1500 OBS (1988-98) trucks and has been used on front steer GM cars as well.

    FAQs

    General Product FAQs

    • What is the primary purpose of the K10702 bracket kit? It is designed for GM Gen 5 LT truck engines (2014–2019 L83 and L86) to add a hydraulic power steering pump and a Sanden-style AC compressor while retaining most of the factory front drive system.
    • What is the main difference between this kit and the K10742? The K10702 is designed for the larger Sanden HD compressor (SD7H15), which is ideal for builders who need additional cooling capacity. The K10742 uses the more compact Sanden Mini (SD7B10).
    • Why is the power steering pump mounted on the passenger side? Because the L83/L86 engines have an offset water pump on the driver’s side and often a low-mounted vacuum pump, Kwik Performance engineered this kit to place the power steering pump on the passenger side to avoid removing those components.
    • What engines are compatible with this kit? It is specifically for GM Gen 5 LT Truck/SUV engines (L83 and L86) from the 2014-2019 model years.

    Compatibility & Installation

    • Which AC compressor is required? You must use a Sanden HD compressor (SD7H15).  We offer the compressor as an option: https://www.kwikperf.com/collections/air-conditioning/products/genuine-sanden-sd7-hd-air-conditioner-compressor-10300-01
    • What power steering pump is used? The kit is designed to mount a Type 2 power steering pump and is included in the kit.
    • Are special hoses required for the power steering? Yes, because the pump is relocated to the passenger side, you will need longer hoses. Kwik Performance offers a dedicated Power Steering Hose Kit (K10549) for C10 and OBS (1988–1998) trucks to support this layout.
    • Do I need a new alternator? Nope! This kit is designed to work perfectly with your existing LT Truck alternator.
    • Is it compatible with Vintage Air? Absolutely. Since the Sanden HD is a fixed-displacement compressor, it works great with Vintage Air and most other aftermarket or older OEM systems.

    Technical Specifications

    • What material is used for the bracket? Like other Kwik Performance brackets, it is precision-machined from 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum and comes with a smooth satin finish.
    • What is included in the package? The kit includes the aluminum mounting brackets, power steering pump and remote reservoir plus all necessary spacers, and zinc-coated fasteners required to mount the AC compressor and power steering pump while retaining the factory alternator.
