BBC Serpentine Package, Alt/PS Type-2 pump (No AC) - K10257

Q:  What components are included in the package?

• Brackets: CNC-machined 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum with a brushed satin finish.
• Hardware: All necessary spacers and zinc-coated fasteners.
• Power Steering Pump: A new aluminum "Type 2" pump with 5.5” pulley
• Pulleys: Water pump pulley and idler pulleys.
• Tensioner: Automatic spring-style tensioner.
• Adapters: SBC crank pulley with a BBC (1966–1993) crank pulley adapter.

Q:  What additional components are required for a complete installation?

A: The following parts are not included and must be sourced separately:

• Water Pump: A reverse-rotation "long" water pump (found on 1988–2000 454 engines). We offer a Gates PN 44030.
• Power Steering Remote Reservoir: We offer a GM style baffled reservoir, PN K10267 and a mounting bracket that attaches to the Alt/PS bracket, PN K10271.
• Alternator: A CS130 serpentine alternator (standard on 1990–1995 GM trucks) or a compatible high-output 1-wire unit.  We offer a PowerMaster 140 amp, PN 47861

Drive Belt: A 6-rib serpentine belt.  Suggested lengths and Gates part numbers can be found in our installation instructions.

Q: Which engine platforms are compatible with the K10257 bracket system? 

A: This system is engineered for all Big Block Chevy (BBC) engines, including Mark IV, Gen 5, and Gen 6 architectures. It is compatible with both standard and tall-deck blocks, covering displacements from 366 to 572 cubic inches.

Q: Is there a variation for BBC engines manufactured between 1994 and 2000? 

A: The standard K10257 kit includes a crank pulley adapter for 1966–1993 Mark IV engines. If your engine falls within the 1994–2000 Gen 5 or Gen 6 year range, a different crank pulley adapter is required to match your harmonic balancer. Please call or email and we will send the correct adapter.

Q: What specific water pump is required for this configuration? 

A: This system requires a reverse-rotation "long" water pump, typically found on 1988–2000 454 truck engines. We offer a Gates PN 44030. Standard-rotation v-belt pumps are not compatible.

Q: Which alternator model should be utilized with this bracketry? 

A: The brackets are designed for a GM CS130 serpentine alternator (standard on 1990–1995 GM trucks). We offer a PowerMaster 140 amp, PN 47861.

Q: Does the included Type-2 power steering pump require a specific reservoir?

 A: Yes. The Type-2 pump included in this kit is a compact unit designed for use with a remote-style reservoir. The reservoir and high-pressure/return hoses are not included. Kwik Performance offers a matching remote reservoir (PN K10267) and a dedicated mounting bracket (PN K10271) to integrate it directly onto the Alt/PS bracket.

Q: How is the belt length determined for the K10257 system? 

A: The system utilizes a single 6-rib serpentine belt. Due to variables such as alternator casing size and pulley diameters, a specific belt is not provided. Our installation instructions will have a suggested length and Gates part number. Final fitment should always be verified by checking the tensioner’s operating range marks.

Q: What about clearance for steering boxes and valve covers? 

A: The alternator and Type-2 power steering pump are positioned "high and tight" on the driver’s side of the engine. This orientation provides maximum clearance for large aftermarket steering boxes and ensures compatibility with tall, high-clearance aftermarket valve covers.

Q: Can this kit be upgraded to include Air Conditioning at a later date? 

A: A: Yes.  You can do this one of two ways. 

One: If you know you want AC now, order one of our BBC kits that includes an AC compressor bracket, K10655 if you want the larger Sanden HD 709 or 508 compressor, or K10278 if you’d rather use the Sanden Mini compressor.

Two: If you want to add AC later, we can sell you just the AC side to replace the AC-delete  tensioner bracket that comes with this kit.  Those part numbers are not on our website but a phone call or email will get one of them on its way to you.
