Alternator/Power Steering (no AC) Bracket System for Chevy LT Gen 5 Truck Engines (L83, L86, 2014-19)

Here’s how to add a power steering pump to your 2014-2019 LT truck engine.

Here’s the problem this bracket kit solves:  The L83 and L86 engine donor trucks used electric power steering assist.  Your project vehicle probably has hydraulic power steering. This bracket kit gives you a Type 2 power steering pump compatible with most older chassis

What you might find unusual is mounting the power steering pump on the passenger’s side of the engine. We do that because these engines have an offset water pump taking up space on the driver’s side. There is a potential location low on the driver’s side where GM put a vacuum pump. We know hotrodders may remove that pump but we figured GM put there for a reason and we didn’t want to force builders to remove it.

The solution to a power steering pump on the passenger’s side is simply longer PS hoses and we offer a custom kit that will work great with C10 and C1500 OBS (1988-98) trucks and has been used on front steer GM cars as well.

  • What is the primary purpose of the K10460 bracket kit? It allows you to mount a high-quality hydraulic power steering pump onto 2014-2019 GM LT Gen 5 truck engines (L83, L86).  
  • Why would I need this bracket? Most Gen 5 LT truck engines were equipped with electric power steering from the factory. This bracket is essential for swaps into older vehicles (like C10 or OBS trucks) that require a hydraulic pump for their steering box.  
  • Does this kit include a power steering pump? Yes, the K10460 is a master kit that combines the bracket and a Type II power steering pump into one package.  

Compatibility & Installation

  • Why is the power steering pump located on the passenger’s side of the engine? We do that because these engines have an offset water pump taking up space on the driver’s side. Also, GM put a put a vacuum pump low on the driver's side. We did not want to force anyone to remove this.
  • How do I connect the pump to my gearbox on the other side of the engine?  We offer a custom kit with longer hoses that will work great with C10 and C1500 OBS (1988-98) trucks and has been used on front steer GM cars as well.
  •  Is this kit compatible with factory AC? This specific part number (K10460) is the power steering only version. If you need both AC and Power Steering, you would look at the K10702 for Sanden HD compressor or K10742 for the Sanden Mini compressor kit.
     
  • Can I use my original LT truck alternator? Yes, this system is designed to work in conjunction with your factory LT Truck alternator and its original mounting location.
