Description

AC and Power Steering bracket system for Gen 5 LT truck engines with centered water pump.

Add hydraulic power steering (pump included) to your LT engine swap.

Relocates Sanden AC compressor and adds Type 2 power steering to the driver’s side of the engine.

Requires use of GM water pump used on 2019 and later truck engines, L82, L84, L87 and L8T.

Note:
The water pump housing must have a machined surface on the passenger’s side of the casting to accept an L8T belt tensioner. The following casting numbers can be found on the face of the water pump housing: 12383468, 12687631, 12707680, 12708893.

Some 1500 pickups with 5.3L and 6.2L engines (L82 L84 and L87) have the centered water pump but did not use a spring-loaded tensioner and therefore the casting was not machined. For example, some, but not all of casting number 12383468 are machined.

All 6.6L (L8T) engines use a spring-loaded tensioner and will have the correct water pump, casting number 12707680.

Engines from 2014-18 (L83 and L86) have the water pump offset to the driver’s side. However, the centered water pump mentioned above will bolt up to these earlier engines. If you want to keep the offset water pump, check out our LT Truck (14-19) AC-Alt/PS Bracket: (Kwik Performance PN K10438).

    What's Included / Other Requirements

    What's included:

All necessary spacers and zinc coated fasteners

    Power Steering Pump

    Power Steering Reservoir

    Idler Pulleys

What else is required to complete the installation:

GM LT Gen 5 engine with truck (2014+) harmonic balancer

LT Truck alternator (uses OEM bracket and location)

Gen 5 truck water pump with centered pulley (see above)

L8T (6.6L) belt tensioner and idler pulley assembly

    Six-rib belt (Gates K061005)

Complete Gates belt chart available here. GATES BELT CHART

Alternator rating and PS pulley diameters can change suggested lengths.

Always check tensioner marks for correct fitment.

Sanden SD709 AC compressor (also known as SD7H15)

We recommend the 709 over the 508 compressor for smoother operation and slightly more cooling capacity.

    FAQs

Q: What is the primary purpose of the K10581 bracket kit?

A: It allows you to mount a high-quality hydraulic power steering pump and a Sanden HD AC compressor onto 2020+ GM LT Gen 5 truck engines (L82, L84, L87, L8T).

Q: Why would I need this bracket?

A: Most Gen 5 LT truck engines were equipped with electric power steering from the factory. This bracket is essential for swaps into older vehicles (like C10 or OBS trucks) that require a hydraulic pump for their steering box. It also mounts a Sanden aftermarket AC compressor which is compatible with most OEM and aftermarket AC systems.

Q: My engine didn’t come with a tensioner. Which one do I need?

A: You will need to source a tensioner for a 2020-25 L8T engine (6.6L), Gates part number 39666 or equivalent.

    Quick Compatibility Checklist

As you finalize your build, ensure your water pump matches these specific casting numbers to accept the required L8T tensioner:

    • 12383468
    • 12687631
    • 12707680
    • 12708893

Note: The water pump must have a machined mounting surface on the passenger side. While some 5.3L/6.2L pumps (like 12383468) have the centered pulley, they might not be machined for the tensioner. All 6.6L L8T pumps (12707680) are ready to go.

Q: Does this kit include a power steering pump?

A: Yes, the K10581 is a master kit that combines the bracket and a Type II power steering pump and matching reservoir into one package.

Why should I use a genuine Sanden AC compressor?

A: Kwik Performance recommends a genuine Sanden for several reasons:

    • Compatibility: Many original equipment (OEM) compressors use a "variable" displacement" design, which often struggles to play nice with older OEM or aftermarket AC systems.
    • Belt Alignment: OEM compressors typically feature a 4-groove pulley. This bracket system requires a 6-groove pulley to function correctly in the relocated position.
    • Industry Standard: Sanden is the "gold standard" for the aftermarket, making it easier to find parts and support from AC manufacturers.

Q: Why relocate the AC compressor at all?

A: While Gen 5 LT engines are powerful, their factory accessory positions are often "swapper unfriendly." Relocating the compressor to the upper driver’s side solves frame clearance issues common in many classic truck and car chassis.

    Technical Specifications

Q: What material is used for the bracket?

A: Like other Kwik Performance brackets, it is precision-machined from 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum.

Q: What is included in the package?

A: The kit includes the aluminum mounting bracket, a Type II power steering pump and reservoir, and all necessary spacers and zinc-coated fasteners.
