Description
Description
When we set out to offer a power steering pump for our serpentine systems, we had several requirements:
-Be compatible with most GM steering boxes and racks
- A maximum pressure relief setting of around 1400-1600 psi is perfect for GM style steering boxes like the models 800, 700, 600 and 500 and modern GM rack & pinion gears.
-Have a small diameter pulley to help with engine swap clearance
- This pulley is 5.5” versus the 6.5” to 6.6” pulleys used on other GM style pumps.
-Easily connect to a remote reservoir
- A remote reservoir saves space and gives more options for where to locate it. We install a custom 5/8” hose barb that makes it easy to connect to a remote reservoir like the factory Corvette version we offer.
Type 2 GM style power steering pumps come in two main versions: “TC”, often found in Corvettes, and “CB”, more often found in SUVs and trucks.
This pump kit is the CB version. This means it has a larger shaft diameter than a TC version, roughly ¾” vs. 5/8”. This also let’s us use a readily-available smaller 5.5” pulley. Since this pulley and pump combination was used together on some GM SUVs there’s no worry about over-spinning the pump.
Unlike some TC pumps, our CB version also places the pressure port in a position that makes hose routing much easier. And speaking of hoses, we also offer a hose kit designed specifically for connecting this pump to a GM gearbox like the ones found in the vehicle list below.
And, of course, this pump fits our brackets for LS, LT, SBC and BBC engines.
