Description

Heavy-Duty Cooling Teams up with Heavy-Duty Power Steering

Here’s how to dump those troublesome V-belts and upgrade your Small Block Chevy (SBC) to a modern serpentine drive system with maximum air conditioning performance.

We designed this system for builders who want the higher cooling capacity of a full-size Genuine Sanden HD compressor (SD508 or SD709) teamed up with the rugged power steering capabilities of the Saginaw P-Series pump.

Whether you are building a classic truck, a street rod with a large cabin, or a high-performance cruiser driven in extreme summer heat, this system gives you full-size A/C output and power steering options including hydro-boost braking systems.

We also offer this HD compressor bracket paired with the compact Type 2  power steering pump and remote reservoir.  Check out part number K10811 for that combination.

Why Choose the Sanden HD System?

  • Maximum Climate Control Performance: The Sanden HD series delivers significantly higher refrigerant displacement than mini compressors. We specifically recommend the Sanden SD709 (SD7H15) (See Kwik part number 10300-01) for maximum cooling volume and smooth, quiet operation at higher RPMs.
  • No Belt Slip or Squeal: Our spring-loaded automatic tensioner keeps continuous tension on the 6-rib serpentine belt under all engine loads and throttle changes.
  • Driver-Side Versatility: The driver-side bracket  is designed for a readily-available CS130 style alternator found on 1988-95 Chevy trucks. We offer a higher-output, 140 amp PowerMaster as an option (part number 47861). The power steering pump area is designed for a Saginaw P-Series pump (sometimes called the “canned ham” due to its attached steel reservoir). We offer a standard version or one with two return lines for use with hydro-boost braking systems. See part numbers 6023R or 6091R.
  • Other options: If you don’t need this extra cooling capacity, or need a more compact package, we also offer two kits that feature the Sanden Mini A/C compressor, K10323 and K10324.

What's Included / Other Requirements

What’s Included in the Kit

We supply all the brackets, pulleys, and mounting hardware required to mount your accessories to your Small Block Chevy:

  • Passenger-Side A/C Bracket Assembly: Brushed aluminum brackets for Sanden SD508 and SD709 compressors.
  • Driver-Side Alternator & Power Steering Bracket Assembly: Configured for Saginaw P-Series pumps with attached steel reservoirs.
  • Pulley Package: Crankshaft pulley, water pump pulley, and idler pulley,
  • Automatic Belt Tensioner: Heavy-duty spring-loaded tensioner assembly.
  • Complete Hardware Kit: Zinc-coated fasteners, aluminum spacers, and step-by-step installation instructions.

What Else You Need to Complete the System

To keep your options flexible, these base bracket kits do not include the accessories. You can use existing components that match our specifications or purchase brand-new components directly from us.

  • Air Conditioning Compressor: Sanden SD508 or Sanden SD709 (SD7H15) serpentine compressor. (We stock and recommend the Genuine Sanden 709 for maximum cooling capacity, part number 10300-01).
  • Alternator: Standard CS130 style alternator matching the 1988–1995 Chevrolet pickup mounting configuration. (Older 10SI and 12SI alternators do not fit. For high-draw systems, we offer a 140-amp Powermaster CS130 alternator, part number 47861).
  • Power Steering Pump: Saginaw P-Series.
  • Water Pump: SBC reverse-rotation water pump used in Chevy trucks from 1988-95.
  • Serpentine Belt: 6-rib belt. Our installation instructions give you recommended belt lengths and Gates part numbers.
  • Cylinder head threaded hole: Fits all classic Gen 1 SBC engines (1969 and later). Requires cylinder head with at least one threaded hole on passenger side.
  • Optional A/C hose kits: If this bracket system is being used in a Chevy C10 or OBS truck, we offer custom, ready-to-bolt in A/C hose kits that will connect your HD compressor to your existing condenser and evaporator. FAQs

Q: What is new about this Small Block Chevy (SBC) serpentine accessory drive system?

A: We have expanded our SBC serpentine lineup to support full-size Genuine Sanden HD air conditioning compressors (SD508 and SD709). While our standard K10323 and K10324 systems feature the compact Sanden Mini compressor, these new kits upgrade the passenger-side A/C bracket to hold larger HD compressors while keeping the proven driver-side alternator and power steering options.

Q: Which A/C compressors fit the new passenger-side bracket?

A: The bracket is engineered to fit standard Sanden SD508 and Sanden SD709 compressors, We stock and recommend the Genuine Sanden SD709, part number 10300-01, (officially the SD7H15) for maximum displacement and quiet operation at higher RPMs.

Q: Why would I choose a Sanden HD compressor over a Sanden Mini?

A: The Sanden Mini (SD7B10) is ideal for tight engine bays, but the Sanden HD series delivers significantly higher refrigerant displacement and overall cooling capacity. If you are building a truck, a vehicle with a large interior cabin, or driving in hot climates, the HD compressor provides superior climate control performance.

Q: What power steering pumps are compatible with this kit?

A: This version uses the popular Saginaw P-Series, sometimes called the “canned ham” due to the shape of the attached steel reservoir. We offer both the standard version and the pump with two return lines compatible with hydro-boost braking systems.

Q: Which alternators fit this system?

A: This system is engineered specifically for the CS130 alternator using the mounting configuration found on 1988 through 1995 Chevrolet pickups. Older 10SI and 12SI alternators do not fit this bracket arrangement. If you need higher electrical output than a standard factory replacement, we offer a 140-amp Powermaster CS130 alternator, part number 47861.

Q: How does this system handle belt tensioning?

A: Like all of our complete serpentine systems, this kit uses a spring-loaded automatic belt tensioner. This maintains continuous, proper belt tension under all engine loads, preventing belt slip and eliminating manual adjustments (remember those with your old V-belt system?)

Q: How do I select the correct serpentine belt length?

A: We provide recommended belt lengths and Gates part numbers in our installation instructions. You can also consult our complete Gates belt chart in the instructions section on the product page if you need to fine-tune your belt selection once your accessories are mounted.
