FAQs

Will this kit work with both my old steering box and my new LS/LT pump? Yes. This is exactly what the kit was designed for. We include the conversion fittings necessary to bridge the gap between classic GM steering boxes and modern pumps. Whether your box uses SAE (pre-1980) or Metric (1980+) O-ring ports, the adapters in this kit ensure a leak-free connection.

What Kwik alternator/power steering brackets does this kit work with? This part number, K10548, works with any Kwik bracket that mounts the power steering pump on the driver’s side for the engine.  If you have our bracket for certain Gen 5 LT truck engines (L83, L86, 2014-19) which mounts the PS pump on the passenger side, then use hose kit K10549.

What is the difference between JIC and AN fittings? Functionally, they are identical for your application. Both use a 37° flare to create a mechanical seal. However, while "AN" (Army-Navy) fittings are often made of soft aluminum for weight savings, our JIC (Joint Service Conference) fittings are made of heavy-duty steel. This provides a more durable, "set-it-and-forget-it" seal that won't strip or crack during installation.

Why do I need a 5/8" feed hose? Some other kits use 1/2"? Modern GM power steering pumps (especially those found on LS/LT engines) move a high volume of fluid. A 1/2" line can restrict flow, causing "pump whine" or cavitation, which eventually destroys the pump. Our 5/8" diameter feed hose ensures your pump gets the volume it needs to stay quiet and cool.

Do I need a hose crimping tool or a saw? No. Unlike "universal" kits that require you to cut the hose and assemble the ends yourself, our high-pressure hoses come pre-cut to length and factory-crimped. The low-pressure return line can be cut to length since it is made of nylon reinforced rubber and is easily cut with a knife or shears.  Other than that, you only need basic hand wrenches to bolt the kit onto your vehicle.

Can I use these hoses with Hydroboost systems? This specific kit is a 3-hose "Standard" kit for pump-to-gearbox setups. If you are running a Hydroboost assist (which requires additional high-pressure lines), please contact us—
