Conversión de R4 a Sanden AC

 What's included:

Adapter brackets to bolt the Sanden compressor and to the R4 bracket.

All necessary hardware is included.

Adapter plates are painted black.

What else is required to complete the installation:

Sanden “mini” AC compressor (also known as SD7B10) (Kwik Performance PN 10266-01).

New hose fittings. The Sanden Mini compressor uses a completely different style of hose connection with threaded O-ring style swivel fittings rather than the R4 manifold block.

While it may be possible to have a local AC shop crimp new fittings onto your existing hoses, we recommend one of the hose kits we offer that are custom-made to fit your specific year OBS truck.

• 1988-90 Chevy trucks use: K10707
• 1990-93 Chevy trucks use: K10669
• 1994-98 Chevy trucks use: K10694

Note: 1990 was a cross-over year and may have either of two condenser styles which affects which hose kit to select. See this document for details:  Chevy OBS condenser guide

This Sanden Mini AC compressor also requires a manifold style fitting kit K10550.

We also offer a complete kit consisting of this bracket, a Sanden Mini compressor, the manifold kit and, as a bonus, we also include a new accumulator/drier at no extra cost. 

• K10762 fits 1988-89 and some 1990 trucks with SAE condenser
  male/female fittings
• K10763 fits 1991-93 and some 1990 trucks with SAE condenser
  male/male fittings
• K10764 fits 1994-95 trucks with metric condenser male/male
  fittings and metric accumulator/drier

You will also need a new six-rib belt. Belt length will vary depending on application. The Sanden pulley diameter is slightly larger than the R4 and the center line is shifted slightly. We recommend starting with a belt approximately 1” longer than what was used with the R4.  See installation instructions for suggested

Do I need any additional fittings for the Sanden compressor?

Yes. The Sanden Mini compressor requires the straight manifold fitting kit: K10550 - AC Compressor Straight Manifold (Sanden 7176).

Does Kwik Performance offer a complete kit with everything I need? 

Yes. Complete kits are available that include the conversion bracket, Sanden Mini compressor, manifold fitting kit, AC hose kit and a new accumulator/drier at no extra cost.  See part numbers K10762, K10763, K10764.

Will I need a different belt after installing this conversion? 

Yes. The Sanden compressor pulley is slightly larger than the R4, and the centerline position shifts slightly. We recommend starting with a belt approximately 1 inch longer than your current R4 belt. 

How do I know if my belt is the correct length? 

After installation, verify that your belt tensioner sits in the middle of its travel range both after installation and after initial startup. If the tensioner is maxed out in either direction, you'll need a longer or shorter belt.

Will the Sanden Mini compressor clear my tall valve covers? 

Yes. One of the advantages of the Sanden Mini compressor is its compact size, which provides additional clearance for tall valve covers compared to the longer Sanden 709. .

Can I reuse my existing AC hoses after the conversion? 

The Sanden Mini compressor uses threaded O-ring style swivel fittings, which are completely different from the R4's manifold block connections. While a local AC shop may be able to crimp new fittings onto your existing hoses, Kwik Performance recommends using one of our pre-crimped hose kits designed for your specific year truck. The correct hose kit depends on your condenser style and model year.

Which hose kit do I need for my truck?

 Select based on your model year and condenser configuration:

• K10707 - AC Hose Kit (88-90) OBS Chevy - Sanden Mini fits 1988–90 trucks
• K10669 - AC Hose Kit (90-93) OBS Chevy - Sanden Mini fits 1990–93 trucks
• K10694 - AC Hose Kit (94-95) OBS Chevy - Sanden Mini fits 1994–95 trucks

Note that 1990 was a crossover year. Some trucks came with the earlier condenser style while others had the later version. Check your condenser fittings before ordering: if both fittings are horizontal with one male and one female SAE thread, use K10707; if the lower fitting angles upward and both are male SAE threads, use K10669.
