Q: Why do I need the K10549 hose kit for my LT swap?

A: When we use our Kwik Performance accessory brackets (such as the K10702, K10742, or K10460), we move the power steering pump "Up and Out" to the passenger side of the engine. Since most steering gearboxes or racks are located on the driver side, factory hoses will not reach. We designed this kit with extended lengths to bridge that gap across the engine crossmember while maintaining a clean, professional look.

Q: Which engines and brackets is this kit compatible with?

A: This kit is specifically tailored for Gen 5 LT-based truck engines (L83, L86, etc.) being converted to hydraulic power steering. It is the correct plumbing solution for our LT bracket systems that relocate the pump to the passenger side to prevent interference with frame rails and steering components in classic chassis swaps.

Q: Do I need a specific power steering pump to use these hoses?

A: Yes. This kit is designed for the Saginaw Type-2 (remote reservoir) power steering pump used with our LT brackets. We recommend using our pump (PN 10206-06), which features the correct smooth, press-on pulley shaft and custom hose barb for these connections.

Q: How is the power steering reservoir mounted for this application?

A: For the LT truck bracket systems, the reservoir is not mounted to the main bracket. Instead, it attaches to the side of the AC compressor using a supplied bracket. 

Q: What type of hoses and fittings are included in the kit?

A: We include high-pressure, braided-reinforced hoses and a complete set of adapter fittings to ensure a leak-free connection. The kit features:

  • High-Pressure Side: A pre-assembled, pre-crimped high-pressure hose.
  • Return Side: A low-pressure return line with one end pre-crimped and the reservoir end left open for custom fitment.
  • Adapter Fittings: The necessary metric-to-AN or SAE adapters to interface with common GM steering boxes and the Saginaw Type-2 pumps used in our kits.

Q: Are the hoses "cut-to-fit" or pre-assembled?

A: The high-pressure line is fully pre-cut and crimped for a secure, professional-grade seal right out of the box. For the return line, we provide one crimped end, while the reservoir side is left "cut-to-fit." This allows you to trim the return hose to the exact length needed for your specific reservoir mounting location without having excess hose looping in the engine bay.

Q: Does this kit work with Hydroboost braking systems?

A: This kit is engineered for a standard "Pump-to-Gearbox" circuit. If you are running a Hydroboost system, you will need additional T-fittings and extra hose length to handle the additional return lines. Please contact us if you are running Hydroboost so we can ensure you get the extra components required for your specific plumbing layout.
